Intercooler Boot?
Intercooler Boot?
So my friend has the bright idea of disconnecting an intercooler boot to produce no boost and hence black smoke for a video .. his 92 doesn't have gauges like mine so I've tried multiple times to warn him that this is suicide, as his EGT's will raise exponentially. He doesn't have any "aftermarket" engine mods but his pump is cranked up near runaway .. Anyone have some tales from the crypt that I can show him to negate this attempt? Or am I being the over cautious parental figure in this equation?
If his AFC is still operational he won't get much smoke. No boost signal to the AFC will kill a lot of his fueling.
Quite wasting your time talking. You have warned him. Let him melt it. Then you can buy whats left for parts or to rebuild.

I know when I had a boot pop off the thing was angry hot. My smoke screw is down enough so I don't need boost for the fuel to pour in. I had to watch it while going home. I did not want to fix it beside the road.
