Installed my Old Smokey Mount
Installed my Old Smokey Mount
Well i was scrounging around the "metal" dumpster at work and found some nice pieces of chrome diamond plate...just enough to make the mount. I varied mine a little from the design though. I couldn't bend the plate, so i had to make 2 seperate pieces and join them together with a piece of aluminum that I bent to 90* to attach them. Also, since i run wth a K&N filter (no attachment end to it) I kept the original end piece that attaches to the intake hose, fed it through the hole on the mount, and clamped it all together. Having the original piece straight through the filter holds it in place nicely. I also noticed where it rubs the fender, so I made another small bracket and bolted that to the fender. All and all it seems to work pretty well and is pretty solid. It also only takes about 10 minutes to take everything apart and access the filter.
Here is a question, I want to run an "airflo" set-up, but am having trouble finding a 45* bend that goes from the 4" tube to the 3" inlet to my turbo (stock H1C) and 5" for the filter to a 4" to the tube. Any ideas or did I just not look at the Airflo site hard enough?

Can`t help ya on the turbo inlet size, but the setup I used (and others probably as well) for attaching the air filter to the 45 deg elbow is to use a small section of 4inch pipe sort of like a spline. I used a scrap of ehx tubing lying around but if you order the 4 inch aluminum tube for the air filter just order a couple or 4 extra inches.
You can see where the elbow butts up against the filter inlet (yes it has a clamp on the filter now).

I was at a guy's shop, a while back, and he was building an intake, using those rubber plumbing joints and PVC pipe.
I saw the truck pass today, pulling a big flatbed with a small dozer, so I guess the intake works.
