injection pump
injection pump
Does this sound right.
I called a place that rebuilds pumps, injectors, ect.
i told them how my truck wont start unless i spray either to it and asked how much to rebuild the pump. i told him the pump has been replaced once in 1997 along with the injectors, and i got 210 k on it total.
He told me that I would be money ahead to remove the injectors and take them to him and they will reset the pop off pressure and install bigger nozzles
(40 h.p.) for 390.00 that its got the timing off due to pop off pressure to low and thats why it wont start. does this sound right? I just dont want to spend extra if it wont fix it. he said to spend the money on the injectors first then the pump due to cost. thanks dave

Check the fuel system very carefully for air leaks before you get anything rebuilt. Pressurize the fuel tank(s) lightly to force fuel out any leaks you might have on the suction side of the fuel system.
This does NOT sound like a pump or injector issue to me.

man i have done all that except pressurize the lines im going to try that today thanks dave
so you dont think the pop off pressure could be off enough to make it out of time and not start?

i put a clear hose before the lift pump and the line is clear no bubbles.
what other places can i get air in that i would not see?
i also changed the fuel heater seal and the little one that goes in the center of fuel filter. i put a piston lift pump and pressure reg. that has a bypass line back to return of tank.pressure is set for 13lbs, the only line i could not check is the one that runs behind the fuel filter\heater assy, at the top not sure if that one is return or low pressure supply line. i pressurized the tank today and took a spray bottle with soap and checked all fittings.

Here is a simple test that you can do that will tell you whether you have air-intrusion ahead of the lift-pump :
Take the fuel-line loose at the suction side of the lift-pump.
Replace it with a length of fuel-hose that gets stuck in a five-gallon-can full of fuel.
Wedge the hose in the can, such that it won't vibrate out.
Run the engine long enough to prime the temporary fuel-line.
Let it sit plenty long enough for the problem to show up and attempt to start the engine.
If it starts fine, then your problem is South of the lift-pump.
