I goofed up
In my haste to attempt a crew cab conversion, I stripped the donor & sold the axles... To my dismay the D60/70 in the '84 Crew are geared way too low; my top speed without O/D is about 45ish. I believe the trans is a 46RH with switches for OD & locking TC. What are my options? I run on the freeway a bit & really enjoyed 20+ mpg's, but didn't enjoy pulling my toyhauler at 75. Also curious about the average cost of re-gearing. All advise is appreciated.
Go to a lift and run a bigger tire mine running down freeway pulling trailer with 410's is getting 18 or better I Love 410's but I also lift em to enjoy it a little more . If you need help feel free to PM me also .
I'm a little lost on your set up? You have a lock up transmission? What size tires? Re gearing the axles isn't too much if you can do it. Take it to a shop its going to cost some money. To my understanding an 84 crew would of had a 60 front and 60 rear, I may be wrong about that? I do believe that you could order a crew with 4.56's if that's what you have then top speed it going to be limited.
I would guess doing it right by yourself you are looking at 1,500$
Side note, I saw a set of 61/71 dana's with 3.07 on craigslist in our area for 950$ recently. That would get you some highway gears!

Thanks guys. Both axles are D60's I hadn't checked until now. I assume they are 410's but don't know for sure. I do intend to lift it & run 35's, but will that make up the lack of speed, mpg's & how do I get the speedo back to normal? Currently it's running 265's. Oh & by the way, the craigslist axles I think might be the ones I sold...didn't research & sold them on craigslist for $500. The same day the dude relisted them. DOH!
Put in a higher governor spring and get up to at least 33" tires (i.e. 255/85R16 or 285/75R16). That should help a lot.
I ran 35's for a bit at stock height - but since they were on skinny steel wheels, they were too far inboard and rubbed the pitman arm when I turned right.

I regeared my dana 70 when i still had it before the dana 80 swap and it was in the area of about 520 dollars for the ring, pinion, shims, seals, and bearings.
Now the front on the other hand was about 100 dollars less.
So if your looking at regearing you around 900 dollars, then if you dont have the correct tools and gauges/measuring tools youre then looking at another 300 dollars
To take it to a shop and have it done expect around 800 to 1200 an axle depending on the shop.
Regearing your self may seem like a challenge until you get in there and its actually fairly simple to do
