I get to tweak somebody elses VE
I spotted a 92 in a neighborhood i work in, stopped by and met the guy, hes about 80 and is the original owner of a standard cab w250 with only 82k on it. He had a camper top on it in the early 90's and drove it to Alaska on some wild camping adventure and now its his mulch runner in suburbia. he knows how well my truck runs, and he agreed to let me turn a few screws on his pump here's what I'm thinking: (on a budget of "free")
(its an auto)
move throttle linkage
rotate stock fuel cone
lower star wheel a turn or two
back out high idle screw
adjust TV cable
*let him test drive it*
if that doesn't do it i might give him ONE turn on the power screw.
The truck is perfect, he's to old to pay attention to EGT, and i don't want to spend any money.
Any other freebies I'm missing?

I have a friend who has 2 trucks. I tinkered on both of his trucks. What I did that worked wonders was I ground the stock pin and messed with the throttle linkage so it gave a true full throttle and I also backed out the high idle screw a little for him. That alone worked wonders. I never touched his star wheel or anything. After grinding the stock pin I did leave the littl pastic washer out, seeing as how it's not really needed if you grind the pin right.
I would take a dremmel to the pin before touching the fuel screw. Just my 2 cents though.

take the washer off the fuel pin and that will give a lot more top end. I'd suggest turnin up the line pressure and adjustin his bands in the tranny when he wants to service it, that will help quite a bit and help it last longer. I probably wouldn't go much more than you have on the list without gauges.

Yea i've tweaked 3 or 4 other people's trucks now and best free thing to do to make them happy is everything you listed but get rid of the plastic washer on the fuel cone/pin.......
Oh and advance the timing a little bit. he'll like the timing and the extra top end power.

I wouldn't touch the timing. He uses the truck to run mulch, which to me says he doesn't go on the highway much, which says low end grunt beats top end hp anyday.

Yeah he's not racing it, I just want it to feel faster between stoplights. If I can put a smile on an old fellas truck I'll be happy. oh and I have to do this on a lunch break or two. I think I can do my list above in about 30-45 min.
