Question I couldn't find it in the sticky...

How do I change the oil pan gasket on my 92 w250? My oil pan sits abvove a cross beam on my frame and aside from a few bolts that would be difficult to remove because of said beam how would I remove the pan to change out the gasket? Isn't there something that dips down into the pan to prevent you from just sliding it back and down? The one time I saw an oil pan completely off of a vehicle there was something that dipped down into the oil pan. Maybe it was just on that particular vehicle.

The sticky is the 2nd thread on the forum page. Here is a recent thread on options of how to do it.

The part that hangs down into the pan is the oil pickup tube and at the bottom of the tube there is also a screen, every engine using a wet sump style oil pan will have some variation of this part to draw the oil into the oil pump, and will keep you from simply dropping the pan and sliding it off.

There is also a Dry Sump system where the pan is shallow and flat and and has no room for the gallons of oil, instead it is stored in a large tank and it is moved through the engine using a scavenger pump.

This system is used on high performance and exotic racing engines that have to run while accelerating at high rates of speed cornering or while being inverted like in aircraft.

Think of the gallons of oil sloshing around front to rear and up the sides of the pan.

In order to remove the oil pan in one of these trucks, the engine mounts must be removed and engine has to be lifted up,

No more straight answer than that.
