Hypothetical newb question

First off, THANK YOU to all the contributors (I soon hope to be one).
My question as a relative 12v and diesel newb is how fast is too fast?
context: I usually cruise 70-73 mph hwy, but if I need to pin it for 4hrs, will the throttle let me blow it up? Or will it self govern? Assuming egts and water temp are okay.
Stock 93 ic auto, no fuel screw or injector shenanigans.

thanks!

The gov spring limits you. So depends on which spring is installed.

Welcome to the forum BTW.

Governor spring will keep it at 2800rpm if its stock. If you plan to run wide open for ever and a day, I would put a temp gauge on your transmission. It may not take that speed as well as the CTD.

Thanks guys! Headed back across the desert tonight. I will add tranny temp and tach to the priority list.

I had heard of governor springs, just didn't know what they actually did.

They are fairly easy to change. Just have to watch out for the little parts that like to jump out when the top comes off.

Your not gonna hurt the engine, especially in stock form. It may be loud, but that is just because its a loud engine lol. It was designed to run really hard for a very long time.
