Hx40 wastegate questions

I'm not too familiar with wastegates so I am wondering what happens on an hx40 turbo that came factory with a wastegate that has been taken off? Does the wastegate stay open or closed? My truck does not have a wastegate but it is a factory wastegated turbo, it runs great but maxes out at 22 psi with all of my mods in my sig. Could this cause low egt's in my truck also?

I put a low pressure piston lift pump on my truck and it runs the same, I don't know what else to do. It seems that with all of my mods I should be hitting a lot higher boost than this.

Anybody got any opinions in this?

It just stays open the whole time, there is no actuator to keep it shut. You need one to take full advantage of that charger. As of now you are bypassing the turbine wheel with as much exhaust as that factory gate can flow, all the time.

What stillsmokin209 is saying is get yourself a wastegate! And you're right, you should be seeing higher boost than that, unless you have a breach of containment somewhere in your intake circuit.

Is there a good site, or somewhere on this site, that explains what our turbos are all about.

Without having to take a course @ the local community college, I'd like to learn more about these engines / turbos, so that I could read along, and actually know what you're talking about.

Thank you.

Is there a way to just keep it shut for a test run? I'm looking for a wastegate now if anybody knows where one is.

It would be easier if I could see the other side of the Turbo with it on the truck. If someone could tell me how to tie the wastegate closed without the actuator or any other parts on it that would be very helpful

You have a wastegate already, it's built into the housing. What you need is the actuator, which is the diaphram and rod. Most turbo shops could sell you one. For now take some wire and tie it shut, the lever should be pulled toward the front of the truck.
