HX35 dissasembly Problem
HX35 dissasembly Problem
I'm trying to get the exhaust housing off a HX35. It is off a 98.5 24v ISB w/about 80k on it. It had been sitting for a while in storage and has some oxidation on it. I'm pulling it apart to clean and inspect and possibly rebuild.

By jacking the bolts or whacking it with a dead blow I can get the housing to move, but it moves just a little and then something binds up the wheels. I can't see what is binding but when it first starts to drag it sounds like it is coming from the turbine side. There is no visible contact of the wheel fins. I'm thinking maybe the heat shield is stuck but I'm not sure and I'm a little nervous about cranking on it too much. Any ideas?

Jay
Re:HX35 dissasembly Problem
When I replaced my 21 with the 16 housing, I had one hell of a time getting the old one off. Finally, I took a cutting torch and heated the exhaust housing up and tapped around it with a hammer. While I was tapping I spun the compressor wheel with my hand to make sure it didnt bind up. At times it would come into contact. I then hit it on the other side and worked it off.

If all else fails, cutting torch.

Egads man whatch out for that avitar!

OK I got the sucker apart. Twas the heat shield. that was binding up the turbine. Used 4 jacking screws and very carefully turned each one while watching for contact.

Now all I need to do if find out what to soak the parts in to get all the crud off. Looks like I'll get e rebuild kit and do the works.

Jay
