HX35 and .....

How would a HX35 with a 18cm rear work out for towing???

My little h1c can't handle the workload.

Yes a HX35 w/ 18cm should work great for towing, do you have a intercooler?

How much fuel are you running, and do you have a egt/boost guage?

Either way, a hx35 is a big improvement over a h1c

ps, nice truck too bad ford didn't just put a cummins in in the first place!

I think Haulin In Dixie just switched to an 18.5 housing on his hx35 and from what he's said, it's working out great. An hx35 with any housing is worlds better than an h1c, but the 18.5 seems to keep the compressor right in its map while towing heavy, according to HID.

Just wouldn't want to do a bunch of city driving with the 18.5, lots of lag, but for just pulling it would be great.

I gots all the gauges and then some. There is just a slight twist on the fuel till
I change the front clip to a 92-97, there ain't much room in the front since I cut
the core support 1.5" and used the big Ford diesel radiatator.

Hey, the HX35 was a freebie but the 12cm rear is so small and most of my
RPM is in the 2000 and up range I need the flow up there.

I was looking for a WH1C but there hard to come by nowdays. I am also going to
put the aircleaner box back on and plumb it out front for cooler air, there is way too
much heat under the hood and letting the turbo suck it in just keeps the EGT's too
high even with a full 4" straight pipe.

for your setup and usage I would definately just put your 18cm housing on that hx35 and run it, it does have a larger compressor wheel, 56mm compared to 54mm, and it has the map width enhancement slots. It sure does sound sweeeet!!

NOPE the little engine was from a donor truck, it was a recon off the floor in 94.

I bought the truck and scraped it out.

OK, I got the HX35 installed ........ now what?

I took it down the interstate and tried to heat it up (Sunday LAMERS) in the way.
I did notice about 5 pounds more boost with in on the boards. It is a bit louder
but not much. As for turbo lag it's not bad at all, it's a bit lazy below 1800 but
really wakes up above 2000. I think I need one of them GSK things too.

BTW...... I did find someones MIA silencer ring in my driveway IF you can
discribe it and pay a reward I will return it.

Tomorrow I will be working on getting the airbox plumbed for fresh air, till I can
get one of them entercooler things.

If you tow/carry heavy at any altitude you might want to look at the 16cm housing...it'll give you better response, slightly more boost (2-3psi) and respond better when at altitude.

pb....

would that turbo with my 16 housing be a good upgrade someday if I dont go to bigger injectors? I'm planning on the 3200 spring and changing out the muffler to a Walker straight through design. I already have an opened up air box and K&N. Just wondering if I really need a larger turbo than the h1c I already have?

thanks,

brad

The HX-35 has a wider flow map (more boost sooner) and flows more air overall. If your EGT's are OK there's no need to upgrade yet.
