How many miles/tankfull

Curious to know how many miles are you all getting on the average per tankful. I am averaging anywhere from 460-480 (with items shown in sig. I am sure stockers will differ greatly??) and I am wondering if any of you are getting better than that. I will need comparisons from the automatic 2X4's with club cabs for true comparisons, but the rest of you manuals and 4x4's I would still be curious. Feel free to comment. Thanks in advance, members.

PS- I was thinking, because of my parenthesized comment, please note if you are running mostly stock, if your sig doesn't already show.

Wel so far my "new to me" bone stock 93 D350 auto is getting about 386 mile to a full tank before the low fuel light.. and I think it stinks!!
My 5 speeds both were capable of getting between 480 and 500 before the low fuel light came on... now I know there si a diff from truck to truck about when that light comes on, but it shouldnt be that much!

Yeah, my low fuel light comes twitching on at around 405, then full on at around 450. I'm inquiring from a completely empty tank, or maybe just running on fumes.

about 440 miles the low fuel light starts to come on. Thats a normal tank back and forth to work and around town. On the highway I can go to about 475-500 before the light starts coming on. The most I ever put in the truck was about 25 gallons.

How big are the fuel tanks in these trucks? My low fuel light came on then I went about 30 miles further and still only took 24 gallons

I try and not let it get to where the light comes on, and definitly try to NEVER let it run dry.. there have been too many comments here and there about the fuel cooling the IP and how letting the tank get low effects that, but I would still like to be getting teh mileage from my auto that I did from teh 5 speed...

My current one goes about 420-450 on 25-26gal in town (rarely seeing 40mph or more). I had a 92 W250 I drove from Salina KS to Poplar Bluff MO and did some driving aroudn there before filling up. It was like 640mi on 28.x gallons. Came out to almost 23mpg. This was in 02, when a stock turbo with stock injectors and some pump tweaks made for a hot 1stGen. PW injectors and a 16 or 12cm housing and you were HOT!!

Most of my pickups would go 500 +/- before the light came on, which is about 24-26gal to fill up.

The fuel light is an analog device that's wildly inaccurate. The best guess for how much fuel you got left when it comes on is somewhere between 2 and 10 gallons.

I have some doubts about the VE pump being damaged from lack of lubricating fuel, especially if you are, and you should be, running a lubricity additive, especially with the new low-sulfur fuel. When you run out of fuel the engine dies and no more movement in the pump.

However, if you don't have at least a crescent wrench with you getting the pump and injectors primed and running again can be a real pain in the posterior.

I usually never let the fuel gauge get below 1/2 before I fill up because I don't much like the shock of seeing over $80.00 on the fuel pump when I fill up. If I was towing and traveling this would be different though but I would wait untill the light came on solid before I stopped. On mine I think the light comes on solid when I have 7 gallons left.

Ed, there have been a number of folks posting comments about the fuel cooling the pump, and when it gets low, its circulating and retaining heat, therfore not cooling the pump as well... dont really know if its a serious issue or not, but it makes sense in a way..
I agree about the "shock" of filling up from empty!! Even if logic says i am spending the same amount, it seems easier on me to not see that $80-90 on the pump....

BTW you up to coming up to KC area for a GTG next month? thinking of trying to put one together..

leper, sounds like you and me are getting about the same..
