Guys how many egts did you lose by installing an intercooler on the non ic engines. I imagine it all depends on fuel power etc, but i just want to know a relative amount thanks guys

 

I'd have to guess at least 150 or so. Just guessing to give you an idea

DEFINELY should be over 100 degrees with your setup.

 

if a good aftermarket IC can drop EGT's at WOT 150-200* then even adding a stock 1st gen IC to a non IC truck should drop 200-300* at WOT. Maybe even a little more depending on timing and power.

 

Well I would look at it differently than "loosing egt's".

I would look at it as, "how much usable power" do I gain?

With my stock IC I could tow and keep 15psi of manifold pressure cool and tow with that much "power". Anymore fuel than that and egt's would go too high.

Now with my PS IC, I can now tow with 20psi of manifold pressure and keep that cool while towing.

So I gained 5psi of usable "power" while towing.

I installed a banks plate style inter cooler on my 90 .at the time it was installed I saw a 200+- drop but now I can still hit 1500* at wot but it takes longer to get there It is worth doing because it will allow you to use more power longer . towing seems to be where it shines

the PO of my truck swapped in a 2gen IC. he claimed it was worth a 300deg drop over the stock 1st gen IC.

 

Does that IC fit behind the stock grille?

 

My average EGT went down about 100 with the Powerstroke IC and stock injectors.

 

I dropped aprox 200-250deg on my 90 with a set of 60hp injectors and a fuel pin. Made a big difference. So much that I will be installing one on my 91.5 as well. I have a PS intercooler in the 90 and am getting the same thing for the 91.5.

It will not fit behind the stock grill on my truck i think what i am going to do is weld some expanded mesh on my brushguard to act as a grill and of course put a chevy emblem on it

 

will a powerjoke i/c fit behind the grille on my 92???

 

you might be able to trim, or 'shave' down the thickness of your stock 89/90 grille. the po did this to my crew. he had a banks ic behind the stock 83 grille.
