how far to go with timing

guys i have started to adjust the amount of fuel that is going into the truck and was wondering how far is far enough to go with the timing. as of right now i have about 1/8th of an inch, rotated fuel pin 3 or 4 turns full pow screw no nylon washer and that is about it. egts are 1150 ish wot i want to turn the screw more but dont want more egts. idle is getting higher etc, re indexed it and cut the adjustment screw. should i go with more timing or should i just leave it? truck runs good now but i would always like more. i have a 1990 motor so the injectors are bigger than the 91.5 to 93 thanks guys

1/8" is usually pretty good, but if you want to try more go ahead. If you don't like it you can always pull it back.

Can you do any damage by turning the pump to far ahead which i didn't know you could do.I thought 1/8 in.was all it would go anyway.

Head gasket integrity gets questionable at some point, but at an 1/8" bump there seems to very few people popping head gaskets. It will move farther than the 1/8", I jump mine a whole tooth on the gear.

If your going to be working the truck I wouldn't go any more than an 1/8". More timing puts more heat on the piston longer, not good for sustained 1100+ degree exhaust temps pulling those big hills.

I have my pump adjusted to the head, it runs and drives fine even tows good. I do turn the fuel down for towing. With the fuel turned all the way up I have to run that much timing to keep the egt's below 1400 at wot.

yeah i might just go with more timing. I can get a little bit more out of it and prolly will do so. But heres the dilema. EGtS are higher in the cylinders than on the gauge when you do this correct? so i do not want that to happen whatso ever. however guys on here run a ton of timing so i will prolly do that as fuel increases which will be like today i wont be pulling with this thing but i will be muddin
