How does your truck sound at startup?

I remember reading a thread about how quick our trucks fire up. Something was mentioned about the governor weights being at WOT and that's one reason why it fires up quick. Mine always fires right up, but sometimes the rpm after it starts is low or high. Its that first initial rpm and then it idles just fine. If I stab the throttle and release it before I crank, then the rpms will be higher after it fires. Anybody know what causes this? Is it normal?

Thanks!

Possibly a sticky throttle shaft, linkages or the cable.

Also weather can make it sound different. When my ksb is activated my truck idles a little higher and on hot summer days it seems to idle lower than normal days.

I think the linkage is all good. Maybe something internal that's affecting the throttle shaft? Weather doesn't seem to affect it either, and my ksb doesn't work. It idles fine. I'm talking about the way it fires up. It's always quick to fire. But sometimes it really roars to life like she's ready to go and other times it sounds like she ain't feeling it that day. I'm just hoping that I don't have pump issues.

Any thoughts of making a youboob video to showcase just what you're talking about ? I'm sure it would help the crew here with your diagnosis...

Since it fires by compression the faster it turns over the hotter the cylinders get and the healthier the charge.
You need hot batteries to turn it over quickly with plenty of amps to support the grid heaters during cold starts.
I can parallel up to near4000 amps to spin mine over,
my truck starts within the first revolution with only the Interstate battery.
The VE like all Detroit's start at full fuel and drop down to idle once the governor weights spin.

A weak battery will affect how quickly it starts up.

Fuel temperature has something to do with it I think. With all mine, on a cold start it fires up and runs smooth. Start it again after it has been run hard and it fires up and the rpm drops a little.

What about the possibility of a sticky shutdown solenoid?

Both mine do pretty much the same thing. I can trace their "mood swings" directly to the weather. They still light off on the first crank.

I'll try and get a video up. Except this last week it's been fine. Lol. My battery is good. Shut off solenoid is 6 months old. Weather or temp of the engine doesn't make a difference. Like I said before, it starts easy, just barely bump the key and she fires. Sounds like maybe sometimes its not at full fuel when it starts?
