Its the best 12 dollar mod you'll ever make! It's really not hard to do and there is some good instructions in the tech section. You can also do a search since this topic has been talked about for a good while, and you can find the part # for the spring since there are several different gov springs for the VE.

Most people go with the 3200 gov spring...it seems to be the spring of choice. The spring I have revs to 4200.

What is the difference between the gov spring and just backing out the high speed screw. I backed out the screw 3 turns on mine and it revs to 3200 now.

The 3200 RPM spring doesn't defuel the pump until 3200 RPM. This means you get full power all the way up to 3200 RPM, instead of the power dropping off around 2500 RPM. Max no load speed is over 3500 RPM with the 3200 RPM spring.

Ya-just found out today that you can adjust the gov stop and get more rpm-but like Dave said it starts defueling early-have the 3200 spring here-just need an installer-also to put my 60# exhaust springs in! Where to go next?

NeedMoPower,
What is the part number for your 4200 spring?

I'm curious too...I know you can modify the springs to do the same job but I haven't heard of an application/spring that is set to that RPM rate...where's it from?? Would this be the marine application spring??

pb...

edit: as for the "recommended" RPM levels... I'd suggest that you set your peak RPM at about 3200. If you intend to run higher RPM on a daily basis you really should consider the heavier 60# springs to make sure you get a good positive valve closure. I know some guys have had no problem running higher RPM, including me, but that doesn't mean that we can really rely on that good luck too often.

pb...

There are alot of different gov springs for the VE. I dont have the part number anymore, but I spent alot of time researching different springs. They even make a 5200 spring for the VE, but it attaches differently in the pump.
