HID's flickering while on running lights only.

So i upgraded to HID's and love it! But, i noticed when the running lights are on the headlights flicker at a very high frequency, this stops as soon as i turn the headlights on. I am assuming that the running lights have less than 12v which is in turn causing the HID's to flicker. Is this correct? Is there a way to get full power to the lights while on running lights only if this is the problem? I dont think i have a lighting schematic, etc.

check volts under load, at the supply, those use low power, but are like fluorescent tubes, with high voltage ballast, that affects everything close by, you havent done the h/light upgrade, that circuit is already max/taxed without adding anything, stocker h/light voltages could recede below 9 volts running. sticky has relay upgrade.

Do the relays as sooty said. I noticed a difference on my hid's after installing relays.

youll be blown away at your stock light performance. especially if you add a tie to allow hi an low beam run together.

I had figured that since the HID's are supposed to use less power while running they would tax the lighting circuit less. I have done relay upgrades on other vehicles so that will be an easy one. I will also check voltages.

If you have daytime running lights, they will need to be disabled for your HIDs to work properly. The low voltage they operate with won't operate a relay correctly either.

I wondered about that, any idea what voltage they run at? I can measure it tomorrow.

I did that with a set of GE HO Halogens years ago.
I have to agree that it makes for crazy brights.
The dims were also a huge improvement be honest.

When your DRLs are on your headlights are running at 60% duty cycle. That is the cause of your flickering.

If you do this then you will defeat the DRL but the high beam indicator light in the dash won't work any more. I had to cut a couple of wires outside the module and then splice two back together to get it to work right. I'll take a pic of the mod and post it.

Ok thanks. I don't really care about the DRL's but want the high beam indicator to work.
