Yes I would. There are instructions on the net somewhere, I will see if I can find them. I think HTT has some but their site is down tonight.

Here you go, this is an upgrade but it will be the same to replace the compressor housing and wheel. Pay close attention and you won't have a problem.

Ok, so i dont really get what i am doing? i am taking the housing off of my 93, along with the wheel and putting it onto the 89 turbo, then bolting that whole turbo to my exhaust housing? i dont have an inch pound torque wrench. how important is it to torque it?

Yes it is. It is important to torque it as it loads the bearings. You can get a wrench from Autozone at no cost. You give them a deposit and when you return it they give it back, it's a loan a tool program.

OK, thanks. it looks like this swap will only take about an hour. does this sound right? all i have to do is take the wheel and housing off the 93 turbo and put it on the 89 turbo, then bolt the whole 89 turbo to the exhaust housing.

are the bolts that you see in the background behind the oil line the bolts that i undo to unbolt the whole turbo? how hard is it to get the turbo off the exhaust housing?
thanks

Yes the four threaded into the exhaust manifold. You also have to unbolt the drain line under the turbo. If the bolts are not too rusted it will come off quickly. I would allow two hours and take my time if I were you. Check and double check everything, the turbo is important.

No, there should not be oil in either housing. Sounds like the shaft seals failed on both ends. That turbo is toast.

Make sure the drain line is clear before you put the frankenturbo on there.

Make triple sure the torque wrench works on reverse threads, you don't want to snap the shaft off like a couple guys have done. Even if you have to use one of the beam style torque wrenches, it's better than breaking the shaft.

There's no reason to swap exhaust housings unless you have changed the housing on the '93. '89 and '93 trucks both have the 18.5 cm exhaust housings. Just swap compressors and bolt it on.

does anybody know why my compressor wheel does not spin freely? i cant get the thing to line up, and on the opposite end of the compressor wheel, where the 3/4" nut is, that does not sit all the way against the metal (you can move that little coupling about 1/4") can anybody help me?
