Help identifying stray wire

Maybe it an unused leftover for the manual transmission option.

Turn the ignition on first,
Now check it with a test light for power, then ground it and see if the backup lights come on.
Gasoline powered trucks most likely used most of the same electrical harnesses.

Just a thought.
My getrag has a sender with 2 round pins, but the wire and boot look nothing like that,,,Mark
