Help! Front Spring Replacement

I'm trying to replace my front springs, but the old ones are still under pressure, even with all the u-bolds loose. the only things left are the shocks, but the FSM doesn't say to remove them.
Can't figure it out...

I do have the whole truck raised by the frame, so maybe the shocks are still holing the axle up. I'll try to get them off, but they don't want to!

the shock keep the axle from over extending. I have see trucks get air born and ether snap the shock off or the mount !

You cant be the nut off or you have the nut off and can't slide the shock off? Is your axle still hanging by the shock only?

I have the nut off and can't get the shock loose from the top mount. I tried jacking the axle back up. I screwed up by not taking the shocks loose first.

Well sounds like you are either fighting gravity or fighting rust. You may have to find the right spot for the axle to "droop" down so you can slide the shock off. May want to soak it in WD then go inside for a soda. Then come back out and give it another try?

Cut the old shock in half, then beat the two ends off.

You think that's fun, try getting the bushings out of the spring eyelets.

Got the old springs off, but the replacement springs (off of a 1990 W250 Diesel) have the smaller, rear bushing size on both ends. I'm going to have to find two more bolts and snug it down really well until I can afford to get my original springs re-arched and re bushed. This is less than fun, but at least I won't be eating tires in the front anymore.

I guess it depends on how you interpret it.

Got it done Sunday. Ended up using my top springs (the clamped ones) and the bottom spring set from the replacement springs (and added a leaf). I got probably upwards of two inches of lift out of the deal, and the front end feels so much better, and all the poping during steering is gone. Makes my kidneys explode over speedbumps, but it's better. I need to quad shock the front now...
