HE351VE on a first gen?
So a little light came on and I'm just wondering why we couldnt adapt one of these turbo's to our trucks? I know it'll be abit of a pain, but there is alot of upgrade in one of them. For me it'd mostly be the built in exhaust brake.
I'm going to pick one up and play with it.They are cheap and easy to find. I've been looking and havent seen a standalone controler. A bunch of gasser guys are messin with them and controling them with boost actuators.

This was my inspiration, although I used the lesser HE341.

Thats the VGT turbo from the 6.7 correct?
I have been doing some research on using one. They are going to be bone cheap till someone figures out a way to make them work well on the 5.9s.
There was a TSB if I remember right on them also because the exhaust housing and stuff where sticking....so there are lots of them out there cheap.
I think they can work, its just going to take an ingenious controller to make them work right and perhaps bypass the electronic control of the VGT.

I'm thinking something manual to control it...do away with the electronics.

Oh dang, my bad.
Wouldn't a manual controller be a pain in the but? You'd have to be continously fiddling with it. The exhaust housing varies from 5 cm to 30 cm depending on a bunch of different stuff which the computer monitors.

Well couldnt you control it with a wastegate actuator? Seems thats what these guys are doin http://www.turbotalk.org/bb/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=4
Sounds like the flange is diffrent also, no big deal really to adapt.

I would think the VGT could be controlled with a secondary TPS, and a WFO switch in the cab, for the goofing off times.
I would be willing to fab one up for my 5.9 if I can find a VGT reasonable somewhere.

If someone could build a controller that uses boost, drive psi, shaft speed, and tps this should work.

Ok so I just got 1 from ebay for $150 shipped and might have another on the way for around $100 and I got to thinking. Even if you placed the VGT in a locked position you would have a turbo the size of around a HX40 for $150 bux or so.
I think I'm going to set it up with it in 1 position 9-12 cm exhaust and have it so I could have a 2nd setting as a EB. I'll keep updating this post once I get it, but getting it done will be slow.

I'm sure they also make nice singles now too, like the 62/71/14 turbo but for 6.7's.
People who haven't even payed 1/4 of what their truck cost are putting on twin turbos and stacking programmers. Where do some people get money from ? go on the 3rd gen forum and look at some of the stuff guys have done to their trucks, making them runs 10's and stuff. HOW CAN THEY AFFORD IT!!
I'm 15, i make $10.25 an hour for 6 hours a day and I'm still flatbroke just from spending money on life.
