HE341, 4in exhaust, Custom intake horn
 

Well my brothers and i have been doing a little work on the old beater. The first thing we did was make a new intake horn. Please excuse the horrible fabricating and welding, as its our first attempt at fabricating anything. We had a welder, cutting torch, cutoff saw, and a few grinders to work with. I didnt take too many pictures of the building process but I'll include what i have.

The next thing we did was mount an HE341 off of an 03 cummins, had reclock both the compressor and exhaust housings, plus drill out two studs on the turbo flange, it wasn't much of an upgrade, wouldn't recommend on and intercooled model unless you can get it really cheap, or free as I did. it would probably do pretty good on a non-intercooled since they have a smaller turbo.

Then we fabbed up a 4in downpipe, exhaust and flange using pieces from my brothers stock 6.7 exhaust, some 5in pipe i had, and a 6in tip, because of the tight fit by the transfer case and the limited pipe we had, I ended up running it out just behind the cab. I don't think it looks too bad, but it is temporary. when i get the money im planning on getting a real 4in downpipe and stacks.

The gains i saw from all this were as follows: Egts dropped from 1600+ to 1400 and take longer to get there, boost went from 20 lbs to 30lbs, much faster spoolup( might have something to with going from the 21cm housing to a 9cm) a mean turbo whistle, a much deeper manlier sounding exhaust note, and slipping torque convertor

Now i'm wondering about possibly having some intake horns built ( by a fabrication shop not by me) and want to gauge the interest, haven't got any prices yet but should have them within a week or so. I'll get a cad drawing with dimensions on here by Tuesday at the latest. I'm planning on replacing the whole intake plate on the next version, so it would be a bolt on piece. The dimensions on the intake itself would be 10 in on bottom, 6.5 in tall, 2in wide, 3.5 in on top, and either a 2.5 or 3in pipe coming in. It would use all the space in between the injector lines. Feel free to leave any comments.

haha I made my he351 downpipe form a 6.7 exhaust too. cheap mods are great. What did you do about the wastegate? You should keep your eyes open for an he351 and sell your he341 to the import crowd.

I welded a tack over the compressor housing opening and then just wired it shut. yeah if i can find find a 351 for cheap enough id be all over it

Where is centerville washington compared to bellingham?

It's about 5 hours south and and a little bit east of bellingham, about 2 hrs east of portland/vancouver

between you and me and bull frog, we reinvented the short side pipe. mines got a turn down under the truck right now with a 6" tip. its **** loud at any speed, and loves tunnels.
