HE 351cw cracked

Tried posting this in the third gen forum but no one seemed to know about the turbo in their trucks(no replies 109 people viewed).
I was given an HE351 to swap into my 92. I took it apart to check it out and the center section of the exhaust housing has a small crack, is this common? Figure it must have ran hot.
Other question is it says "Holset 1" on the compressor housing and my dads 07' has "holset 2" on his. is there any differences between the years this turbo was used? Thanks for any info.

Could it be the early 3rd gen, he341 turbo or does the data tag say he351cw?

my HY35 has a crack in the exhaust housing from the waste gate hole out to the flange, that turbo is toast though. I got my HE351 and a friends HE341 sittin out in my shop, I'll look at them, but I think my He351 says Holset 1 or 3 on my compressor housing, I can't remember but I'll look today.

If I had to guess, and I do! I'd say the 'Holset 1' is the CW version, 'Holset 2' is probably the VE and 'Holset 3' the VGT. The CW is the one you want, unless you can figure a way of controlling the VE or VGT, (they're computer controlled.) I can't remember what year/s they were each introduced, but there were differences on the 3rd gen engines.

Ve and VGT would be the same.

I looked at my HE351CW today and it says Holset 3 on the compressor housing, its off an 05. The HE341 of my friends just said holset on the compressor housing. The He341s came on the 03-04s, and the HE351CW cams on the 04.5-07 dodges, then they went to the He351VGT with the 6.7l. The 351 and 341s may have the same exhuast housing, at least thats what it looks like to me, but the 351 has a hair bigger compressor wheel and housing it looks like. Someone else will chime in on that, but you may be able to get a 341 housing and make it work. Is the compressor housing a gold color?

Never looked at a 341 but think I heard the exducer wheel is smaller. I googled cracked housing and seen a picture of HE351cw with holset 4, so not sure if it is a year indicator or what?

Maybe it's just a random thing, and they stamp what ever number they feel like?!
I believe The Head has run both a 341 and a 351. He might be a good one to ask how they perform.
