hard shifting from park
hard shifting from park
On my crewcab I am putting in the VE pumped 12V with the A518 transmission. When I drove the truck the engine and trans came out of it was hard to get it out of park, I assumed it was because of the vise grips shift lever. But now with it in the crew and a regular shift handle on the column, it still takes a bump to get it to come out of park.
Is this an indication of the "rooster comb" having issues? Or maybe the park pawl is bent?
Any ideas for what to look at and is it something I can fix without tearing the trans all the way apart?
thanks, Aaron

That is what it was on my A-727 it got so it was hard to get into gear, I took it to my transmission shop and he had to replace the rooster comb and detent ball.
I really do not like playing with the insides of automatic transmissions any more, I would rather pay to have it done.
Vise Grips the tool of a million uses.

Well I found the problem in the valve body. It looks like the ball that is pushed into the rooster comb has worn the aluminum housing. So the ball has some side-side movement thus making it difficult to move from park and down to other gears.
So for now I "modified" the rooster comb to make it easier to come out of park.

Has anyone used this kit for the detent ball/spring?

This is the right way to fix my shifting problem, along with a new rooster comb. I just don't want to spend $100 for the reamer that I will only use once!
