Had a headgasket scare just now.

Ironically, I just got back from the parts store picking up the little clips that hold the door panels on, when I pulled in the drive and shut her down. I heard a hissing noise. Pop the hood and I smell/see steam and coolant. Couldn't tell where it was coming from so I start looking just happen to see water right where the head meets the block. My heart dropped, I've been trying to fix her up little by little and now a edit head gasket. Got to looking and I didn't see any water stains. Then my brain kicked in, I've never heard a head gasket hiss that loud or at all for that matter. I started her up and revved her by the linkage. The little 90* bend hose under the alternator has a fairly big hole in it that sprays the side of the block when it gets pressure in it. Thank god, I can do with out doing a head gasket this weekend.

So did the feeling of relief make up for the knot in your stomach?

They are pricey little hoses, count how many are on your rig, then multiply by $35 if you want to do them all it's not cheap.

How can a coolant hose possibly be that expensive?

I get that little elbow replaced with every "new" truck I get, with oil change, fuel filter, etc. They are abou t$8 at the local parts stores.
