Is there any reason that I cannot clock my compressor housing to be vertical so I can change the angle of attack?

Maybe like I did on mine?? It has worked great and allowed me to just go the easy route with two 90s and straight pipe for the 3" intake.

Yes that is how I was thinking and about the airflow being restricted going through both of the 90* bends but I guess that is nothing compared to an intercooled truck.

Did you have any problem with the alignment since they are not at a 90* angle and how is you under hood clearance.

Did you use a 2.50x3.0 reducer elbow?

What did you make your flange out of

I didn't have any problems with the alignment at all, the 90s flex enough to accommodate the up and down. I used two identical 3" to 3" 90 elbows I bought off ebay that had pressure properties rated for for much higher than I would ever see at 36 psi max boost. The other thing though about alignment is that it makes it easy to angle the 3" tube aft in order to make it to the intake side.

I fabricated the plate by cutting a 3" center out of the steel plate with a hole saw on a drill press with lots of oil and welding a short section of that aluminized exhaust pipe to it. The pipe itself should be good to go, steel might rust on the inside and flake off into the intake over time.

Hood clearance is fine and as you see, the tube is angled down towards the turbo, and the intake 90 elbow is sitting directly on top of the plate. That high side hasn't even rubbed on the hood insulation even after a year of driving I see no indications of hood contact. I wrapped the 90 elbow around the stock v band outlet on the turbo (snug tight fit , have to stretch it a bit to get it over) and then clamped it good on the turbo with the band clamp. No leaks... The air flows fine as far as I can tell, better than stock that is for sure. I have the high idle backed all the way out and the fuel turned up plenty with stock injectors and the setup is very peppy to say the least, the spool is very fast with the 16 even...

In the picture you see the black H1C housing that is stock on an intercooled 1st gen, a 54 without the MAP slot. I now have an hx35 setup from a 98.5 24V with a 16 housing. I get fast spool, no flutter or surge, and 36 max psi empty. While trailering the 1972 w200 I saw higher EGT temps but I was able to keep a strong pull in 4th up long grades up to Placerville from Sacramento with the 3.07s.
