Grid relay specs

Does anybody know what the heatergrid relay specs are? I keep burning up my relays on my warn winch (yes I use it ALOT) and I got to thinking that the relays on our trucks might work.

They are made by White Rodgers and rated at 100-amps, There is also a 200-amp version of this solenoid.

I get my solenoids from Grainger’s.

You can parallel 2 solenoids to handle more current.

What is burning out, the coil or you welding the contacts?

How is you battery voltage when the winch is running?

The lower the voltage the more amperes it will draw.

Larger winches will draw many hundreds of amps when they stall far exceeding the contactors rating.

What kind of amperage can you run through the old school Ford starter relays? Will they be any better than grid heater relays?

Maybe 75-100 amps but the solenoids are only rated for intermittent duty and will get extremely hot and burn up in a matter of minuets.

You need one that is rated for continuous duty as our solenoids for our grid heaters.

I also use these to interconnect batteries on my truck.

They would probably work ok for the grid heaters because they only cycle intermittently anyway but not for anything continuous like a winch motor or battery interconnect.

Jim I'm not sure what is going out yet( first one I just replaced the whole box) this time I'm fixing it so it dont happen again.

I have duel redtop optima's. Pretty sure I'm good there. Ive never stalled this winch, last pull before it died I yanked a cherokee out of a bolder pile. It sucked it down hard but never stalled.

The stock warn solenoids are not continuous duty. I was looking at the albright and the titan solenoids but thats around $200( 1 solenoid controls it all).
