Unless you run it to the gov and hold it there on the highway, there's no reason your fuel mileage should suffer.

The governor spring won't affect mileage.

Wolvy, where's your timing set? Have you cranked the smoke screw down all the way?

there's NO reason you should only be getting 12mpg!

I'd be shooting mine if I got that bad of mileage. I get consistently 21 MPG highway and 19 to 20 in town. I get 12 to 14 pulling my 5th wheel. Of course mine is 2wd but still that is very low.

Driving habits are everything, as is transmission quality.

If you're intent on denting the floorboards in order to try to get off the line faster, and you only drive around town all day, and you're torque convertor makes slushie noises, then 14 MPG isn't that bad...

Mine only gets 14.5 mpg in town - but I can see where the fuel went.
I did the governor spring and ground the AFC lever at the same time - with zero effect on the fuel economy.

I drive with a very light foot because I'm in traffic most of the time and I don't want to smoke people for no reason. The only time I've ever gotten over 18.5 mpg was one road trip where I spent most of the time doing 60 mph. I got 20 mpg, but I hate driving that slow.

Wow!. Mine is totally stock, but has an average of 20+MPG.
12 is like owning an old Ford diesel.

The previous owner said he got 18 mpg but I can only see 16 -17 using a GPS for the total miles driven. I've got a bit of a lead foot and a sloppy torque converter. Why are you getting only 12?

same here, i sure do wish i could find a remedy. i mean if everyone else is getting around 17MPG there should be a logical reason why we are not. but i have yet to figure it out.
