Got reported to South Coast Air Quality Management District

I was informed that my vehicle was reported to excessively smoke. Just thought it was comical to get informed by an official letter. Anyone else get anything like this? I'm not worried about it, just wondering who else has gotten one here in southern California.

What is excessive?

A light haze or gorgeous plumes of thick black that blocks the view of the whole truck for a half mile?

CA law makers need to get a grip.

One jet airliner dumps more junk in the atmosphere than on smokey truck.

No worries. It's a "courtesy letter". No enforcement.

I'm waiting for someone to complain about the exhaust I can generate with my truck.

when someone's riding my tail, I like nothing better than to encase their fancy car with a thick black plume of exhaust. their reactions are priceless (immediately dropping way back). if they pull up next to me I act like "that's just the way a diesel runs" and don't even look at them. most civilians can't see me anyway from their little rice burner (or even some of their SUVs)

tailgaters get what they deserve

as for Kali, you couldn't pay me enough to live in that godforsaken state

NYC has more screwy laws than the whole state of California. Gotta love the taxes too.

The sad thing is that a few serious smokers (you know who you are) are going to ruin things for everyone. Dont get me wrong, I love rolling coal as much as the next. But I cant simpathize with ones who are flat out dripping diesel from the tailpipe. Currently (knock on wood) WV is pretty lenient when it comes to not doing emisions but with every state around us doing it. It will only be a matter of time. With so many smokers it may cause the politians to change laws. Again, I am not pointing out anyone. Just speaking my piece. It always happens this way. A few cause change for everyone.

I don't have to generate smoke, it's entirely voluntary.

Most of the time I take it easy on my fellow citizens.

Trucks under 500hp(fuel only) that smoke alot should be taken off the road. It's just embarrassing.

My take on this is if it smokes excessively & can't be made to run reasonably clean it does not belong on the street. I don't care how many HP it makes.

Anyone who makes a habit of laying big clouds of smoke on the street deserves a ticked for being a hazard. If you don't understand why, you probably have never been on the receiving end of this kind of behavior.

I say 500 hp because at a certain point it becomes possible to generate smoke with just a tiny bit too much pedal. Mechanical injection is a delicate balancing act between fuel and air on a higher performance truck. Mistakes can happen. Flooring it at low boost to "smoke out" someone is juvenile. A more mature approach to handling tailgaters is to drop a handfull of marbles through a hole in the floor to persuade him to back off. That is of course assuming your rearward facing rocket launcher has failed.

My 90 just blew a zero on the AZ opacity test for the second year in a row, just how I like it . The ALF fire trucks that we had years ago had low exhausts, smoked a lot on acceleration and would fill up the unlucky car sitting next to it at lights. It may have been funny to some people, but, when it was up to me, I wouldn't allow my drivers to do it (on purpose, anyway)...Mark
