Gooseneck Ball and Mounting Plate Question
Hey everyone! Every since I purchased my truck, I've wondered why someone removed the gooseneck mounting plate from the frame of the truck. My bed has the hole for the ball to go through but there's nothing there, I can see straight down to the rear differential when looking at it. I see where the bolts/studs protrude on each side of the frame but that's the only evidence I have to prove that my truck once previously had a gooseneck plate attached to the frame.
My main question is where can I even find plate for this truck? I've been to places like Thoroughbred Diesel's website and can only find plates and mounting assemblies for the '94+ trucks. I've been wanting to reinstall the plate so I have the ability to use a gooseneck. I can provide pictures as needed. Anyone's help on this subject matter is greatly appreciated! Thanks! |
B&w makes a hitch for our trucks, also you can get a reese hitch to fit. Just google it you will find what you need

I have the Reese rails in my truck. Fifth wheel or gooseneck as needed with 4 pins.

I've got the b&w turnover in mine, easy install and nice and clean when it's upside down. I've got a mumby convert or for my 5th wheel trailer so I can pull it with the crew cab or 1st gen

There are spring loaded u bolts that go through the mounting plate. In the post above you can see them at the edges of his pictures

They are on the tail gate not installed yet.

That's right, it was a premature picture

I made my own plate. I use 2 pieces of channel 1 inside the other.

Nice welds, Andrew!!
Rebal, how does your '90 frame look over the rear axle? Does it have another smaller rise on the top rail? |
I did mine the same as Pulltilbroke except I used a solid slab of steel about 1" thick. Has to rais the bed a little but that actually helped line up the body better.
Now I just need to add the safety loops, can't wait to drill 4 holes through that... |
It really isn't to bad if you use good sharp bits a BFD(Big frickn drill) and drill pilot holes.
