Just ordered my Goerend TC today, just wondering for you guys that have swapped if you have anytips? This is my first auto and Ive doen several clutches in the sticks. I figure I can handle this. I bought a Derale deep cooler pan, new filter, and a 2nd gen flexplate. Just looking for tips or tricks to make it go as smoothe as possible.

This may sound dumb, and it may be... but. I removed and reinstalled my auto tranny and others with 2 inch ratchet straps. I loop them over the frame rails and under the transmission. You have to find a place to hook the end such as a body mount. Then you can separate the transmission and let the straps hold the weight like a cradle. Maybe you could disconnect the drive shaft and slide the transmission backwards on the straps then install the new torque converter without raising/lowering the tranny. Just food for thought.

You should upgrade the flex plate while you are in there

Make sure, very sure the new convertor goes all the way into the pump ears in the tranny. Push while turning several times. Some guys only half get it in and it blows the pump drive ears off and your SOL. I also 2nd the flex plate update. The stockers are known for breaking. I had a tranny rebuilt and the VERY same day I got the truck back the flexplat broke. ( less then 15 miles ) The shop was nice and installed it for free as it must have been broke when they installed the tranny and they did not see it. I only had to buy the part.

Sorry I over looked the second gen flexplate on your list the first time. The second gen flexplate will do just fine.
