Beats me why the grid heater circuits sing, mine do that sometimes too. Maybe one of the electrical gurus has an idea. Jim?

I have not noticed mine doing it. Do you supose the "grid" is vibrating while it warms up?

Mine hums too, and I never thought about it, but when it is all DC there should not be a humming. Maybe it is the relay acting like a buzzer(?)

As mentioned we have grid heaters that heat the intake air, not glow plugs which are found mainly in the prechambers of IDI engines.

Maybe a bad connection in the cable, do a voltage drop test between the (+) battery terminal and the solenoids.

You want to check from one end of the cable to the other terminal to terminal and see what reading you get.

It shouldn't be too much. Also you can check the solenoids, they might have burned contacts and you are hearing them arc.

When you are drawing heavy currents through a cable they can make noise because of the magnetic field that is being produced.

This is why an Induction Ammeter works the way it does.

If you do not have one of these it is a good diagnostic tool to have, I have a few tricks on using them.

When anything heats up by way of a current passing through it does not do it peacefully, the element is expanding, creaking and contorting itself as it heats up.

Jim

Mine is more of a whine, not a pop, creak, or groan. pretty high pitched, adn like I said, it's been there the whole 74K that I've had the truck.

My first one did this a time or two. As far as the crew cab, with the awesome wiring done by the previous owner, I only heard them work a time or two.
