Getting POD's

I am getting POD's and want to know what to expect.

A brief history. I had stock rebuilt injectors and a turned up pump in October, 2006 when the pump tore itself apart. I had a shop rebuild the pump and they claim to have set it to 190 HP settings. However, it does not feel as strong as the pump was prior to failure. Possibly because the pump that failed was turned up too far.

Anyway, the timing is set to 1.6 mm and everything else is stock. The shop that is sending the injectors says they are shipping with middle thickness washers (040) and these are the ones to use.

The shop said to see how the transmission feels because often they have to turn the pumps down for these injectors. They also claim that excessive smoke is not a problem.

Do you all think I will be happy with these injectors with the truck as it is, or will I need to make improvements to my exahust, intake, turbo, etc?

I assume you have your pyrometer in there? From what you have said on the phone, I'd say EGTs wont be an issue, but it is always a good idea to get one in there.

The PODs will smoke and haze from what I have read and seen in person. I have steered clear of them for that reason. My pump is set up so almost any injector would smoke, so I dont need to add to that.

I still think you'd like some 190s better. When the shop set up the pump, did you get a number for fuel flow in CCs?

The trans will be fine, and the clutch will be OK too if it's the stock Sachs clutch.

Get 0.020" washers, it really helps with the idle hazing. Shove the pump as far towards the head as you can get it.

Expect plenty of power, toasty EGT, a nice dark cloud out the tailpipe, and a couple mpg off your in-town mileage. Oh, and you'll look like this guy for a while, too.

what determines the size thickness of washer that should be installed for the PODs. I am looking at getting a set and i was wondering what the different sized washers will do?(besides idle haze)

Don't do it. Save your money for good injectors or better ones. Just remember quality costs money. I ran the pod's for 10K miles and will never go back. There are far better products out there for a comprable price or a far superior product to the better for an uncomprable price (which is what I did) and I have no regrets. Jethrro

Out of curiousity, how bad would the smoke be if the injection pump was set back to factory specs of 160 HP ?

I would not do this... because I already know I can get 50 HP by turning screws, etc. but I am just curious.

my pod's don't smoke that bad. A little haze but that's it. Pretty clean really.
