Getrag's out, ......New Clutch

Well, yesterday I tore out the getrag and took it to my tranny shop. He's a little backed up so I should find out what's wrong with it next week when he tears it down. 140,000 on the drivetrain. Should I put a new clutch in while I have her out. I don't know how to tell if the old clutch is worn. How much is a new clutch and which one should I get. I anticipate doing a lot of pulling with this truck. Lets hear some ideas. Thanks, Matt

if it is close to the rivets you need a new one. A new disk and grind the flywheel and pressure plate and you will be great. The stock is good to about 350hp and last a verry long time. The stock sach is realy good and yours is most probbobly fine. Mine had 350K miles on it and was not that bad and I did a lot of towing with a better turbo and POD's , 3.54, 33" tires. here is a pick of a "ok" clutch and the rivets to go by. If its not this good or better get a new one. What ever you do dont get a 12 1/4" that thay try to sell as the new updated one, get your stock one relined at a clutch shop.

Also look to see if any of the release fingers, drive springs, or marcels (the flat pieces between the linings) are damaged.

The Sachs clutch is tough, if it's been driven reasonably until now it will go another 140k.

At least replace the pilot bushing and the throwout bearing, possibly get the flywheel turned if there are any hot spots.
