Getrag vs NV4500
#46
OK. I'm a I guess everythings easier in a 2wd. Yes modifications to the tunnel and such would have to be done in a 4wd. But again it's up to the driver. I agree the 4500 is easier to shift, but lots of people are putting lots of power through the getrag. So again like I said to each his own. As far as moving the starter I guess I was thinking about my swap ditchin the 6.5 and putting a real motor in the chevy. That's what I was thinking or not however you look at it.

Hey man saw old forum an had a question
If your staying under 425 hp, stay with the Getrag. Nothing wrong with it. I don't know why you would even consider if it's lasted this long. An nv4500 may not have done any better.
How long will it take you to wear out the next one?
I recommend using 5 quarts of oil.
I now have three rebuilt on my garage floor. Can't decide to sell or keep.

find a auto 727 driveshaft and use it if your 4x4 it works the adapter between the splines on the transfer case and the getrag are different if you keep your auto transfer case.
get new hydros and make sure you overfill it as everyone says. youll need to shorten the transfer case selector rod and weld it back up to fit once the rag is in as its closer so you can control the case. like oliver said hes got what you need just make sure to triple check the whole thing in my case I switched from a 727 to the rag so I could keep my driveshaft. oh yeah extend the mounting ability on the cross member youll need that too.
flywheel, clutch pressure plate and all the bolts needed for zipping it in.
