Getrag Question

Ok back in '05 the counter shaft retaining ring came off and it worked it's way back drilling a hole in the tail shaft housing, I fixed the housing and beat the counter shaft back foreword and replaced the retainer about a year later the getrag went bad and I paid a guy $1,000 to rebuild it, I,ve only put about 50-60,000 miles on since the rebuild and guess what! the counter shaft is working it's way back again but this time I cannot find the retaining ring behind the cover in the front which makes me wonder if the guy even put it on to start with . My question is should i replace the Japanese bearings while it's out and should I add more shims while the it's apart ? I don't know what the specs are for shimming it and not sure where I could get the shims.

I did a search and found Zbag.com for bearings and shims but now I have to figure out the math as far as shimming. I am NOT good with math. so that's gonna be the hardest part. What can I do to keep this from happening again

Thank you Ace. I just got the bell housing off and the clutch out and flywheel off does anyone have a ballpark figure on $$ for turning flywheel new throwout bearing rebuild clutch and new countershaft bearings? We are in a not so good situation and my wife is having a heart attack about how much this is gonna cost.

Clutch maybe $350 for a stock replacement kit , $50 for turning the flywheel, can't help you with the countershaft bearings...maybe $500 total?
