Getrag oil change= wont shift

I changed the fluid in my Getrag with 5qts of Redline MTL and it immediately got noisier at idle and wouldnt shift. So I drained it and tried Amsoil 5W-30 Man. Trans fluid .....same thing. I have 100.00 in fluid and it wont shift....Im ready to try 5W30 engine oil or ATF...

It's probably your top cover. You pulled the shifter out right? You must have moved one of the slides in there when you pulled the shifter out, or when you put it back in. Sorry I don't have any pics, but you will have to play around with it.

Won't shift or won't hardly shift? Is it only certain gears? Got me stumped. Is your t-case in gear?

It sounds like your clutch isn't fully disengaging. Wouldn't be related to changing the tranny fluid, but something you should check.

It could be Hydraulics - Clutch master or slave cylinder. I've seen it happen before for no apparent reason. This goes along with what PatricBoyle said.

Acts like something is loading the transmission. I backed it into my carport and it acted like the rear brakes were applied something is binding in the transmission or clutch. Something is really in a bind with transmission in reverse, clutch depressed, truck will not roll freely. Truck in nuetral rolls freely.

Well if it's in gear with the clutch depressed, and it still won't roll, then it sure would seem like your clutch is still engaging, or not releasing.

Im almost convinced that the pocket bearing in the mainshaft might have failed. If the bearing were to lock it would recreate a "in 4th gear " condition. Then shifting into reverse would cause the heavy bind by requiring the two halves of the mainshaft to spin in opposite directions against a bad or siezed pocket bearing.

If the pocket bearing has welded itself like your thinking then it wouldn't roll easily in neutral as you said it does. With the trans in neutral the mainshaft still spins if the truck is rolling and the counter and input shafts don't. What your describing has almost got to be a problem with the clutch.
