Getrag G360 Manual

I need to rebuild my G360. Does anyone know where I can get a Manual? There is basically nothing in my 1989 shop manual (diesel suppliment) about this transmission. Thanks, Steve

I believe that the 1993 FSM had a section on it.

I have a 20 page .PDF file on it that I got from another member here. I can e-mail it to you if you can receive an 870K file attachment.

Thanks a lot Jay, your file would be a great help. I sent a e-mail with my computer specs directly to your address, but I'm not sure you got it. If it isn't too much trouble, just go ahead and send the file to dix39@charter.net and I'll see how it works. I don't think there will be any problem. Thanks again, Steve

getrag 360 manual

I was wondering if your manual would be better in detail than the Doge truck shop manual that I have.I could not recieve that on this computer if itwas more informative but Iwas wondering if I could recieve some other in some other form if it was more informative than my shop manual.

Dix39, I didn't get the e-mail but the file is on its way now. PM me or post here if you don't get it.

RedD, what I have appears to be a scanned version of the FSM (1993 I believe) so if you have that, this probably won't be any different.

Jay, Everything worked perfectly (for a change)!! Many thanks to you. Now I can be a bit less fearful of the rebuild. Honestly, I wouldn't attempt it without some sort of guidance, and now I have it.

Just out of curiosity, what do you use your truck for, and how do you like the exhaust brake? I've been thinking of getting one for years, but didn't know if it would be worth the cost, or if it could cause engine damage. I wondered what your thoughts might be about this?

RedD, I agree with Jay, this is probably the same as your manual. Just to be certain, you could check your manual to see what section and pages cover the Getrag rebuild and let us know. If what we have is different, I wouldn't mind sending a copy to you.

Thanks again Jay.

Guys, if it's the pdf version that I have been offering, it IS simply the scanned version of the service manual.

Jay, it may very well be the one that you were offering. I honestly don't recall who sent it to me but it was a member on this site. If it was you, many thanks. The Getrag is one of my next projects.

Dix39, Glad the manual was what you were looking for. Good luck on the Getrag. Mine's on the list of things to do.
I use my truck for light (by Cummins standards) hauling and trailer towing (16' car hauler) and some empty over-the-road driving. I installed the e-brake last fall but I've never taken the time to get it working right. It is an inline one that mounts in the exhaust pipe under the cab (not hanging off the back of the turbo) and on the 1st gen trucks, it requires that the exhaust valve springs be upgraded to the 60# units, otherwise you may float the valves. I got mine used off ebay so any troubleshooting or repairs are on me. The unit is supposed to develop up to 60PSI backpressure but it keeps indicating that it's developing less than 20PSI and I haven't taken the time to hook up a pressure gauge to check it out. It does work but apparently not as well as it should. Except for the possibility of floating valves if you don't use the right valve springs, I'm not aware of any possibility of engine damage and I've heard a number of people say that their brake life doubled or tripled once they started using the e-brake. Diagnosing the problem with mine is one of my month of May projects so we'll see if I get to it.

I doubt the np 205 is making noise, unless you ran it out of oil.

Charlie,
No charge for the manual. Like I posted earlier in this thread, it was sent to me by another DTR member so I'm just passing it on to help others out. Just PM me your email address and I'll send you the PDF.

Lloyd,
You have mail. PM me if it doesn't get thru to you.

No the trans case has not been run with out oil at least since I have owned the truck.
Actually I think it is either the transmission or the rear end. The noise is more pronounced when I an climbing a hill and in a turn at the same time.
