Gauges
Gauge manufacturers each create their own specs, schematics and wiring instructions on a per gauge, per vehicle, engine, year os manufacture ,etc. Yes, there are some "generic" plans that work for some setups, not all by any means. Have your friend settle on whatever gauges that he likes and then let us know if we can help with any specific installation questions. The gauge choice is purely a personal one, bearing in mind that the rule of thumb is "ya get what ya pay for"

Something should come along in the box for the gauge. I think most exhaust pyrometers use the same thermocouple type..."Type K" it's called...my Banks DynaFact gauge did...some need a 1/4" NPT hole and others can use a 1/8" NPT hole. The ones I ended up using were 1/2 the cost from "the big name" and work fine....and used the 1/8" threaded bung hole that the manifold already had.
Genos will have the bolt you need for the boost gauge fitting, probably.
Trans temp is confusing to me, because the sensor that the PCM used was in the output line, but I know some people put a sensor in the pan...the temps between the sump and the output vary a lot...60 degrees sometimes....I know because my truck has no PCM and I have a sensor in both places, and can easily see.
