Gasoline in the tank!!!

My truck has been acting up since last saturday when I loaned it to the preacher. He was well intentioned but he put about 6 gals of gas into the tank. It had about 8-9 gals at the time. I didn't figure it out until yesterday after I put some fuel in it. It ran better within minutes. So asked him if and how much gas he put in.

So I have a few questions.
1) what did I break driving it( I babied all week)?

2) do I need to remove the contents of the tank?

3)Can I use a siphon pump or will I have to take the tank off?

4)What happens if I can't get it all out?

Just keep filling it with diesel every chance you get. You want to dilute the gas as much and as fast as possible. You could syphon out as much as you can, fill it up with diesel, then add the contaminated fuel a gallon or two at a time (after fill up) until it is gone.

Another reason to KEEP the fuel tank full.

The preacher owes you though.

I saw a local guy mistakenly pump several gallons of gas into his diesel truck. His solution was to dump several quarts of ATF into the tank for lubricity. It sure knocked and smoked but no apparant damage. I saw that truck still running for several years after that. In your case, I'd sure add some extra fuel additive for lubricity until you're sure that the gas it out of the system.

wrong year, but heres my story:
put ~12 gallons of Super in my 3rd Gen . drove home,

i used the fuel bowl drain - sat a 5 gallon bucket under there, put hose in it, cycled key to run pump, and pumped out a good bit - 15 gallons total.

put in some motor oil (everyone says use low detergent - i used whatever was on my shelf) and filled up with diesel, no probs. kept oil in for next few tankfuls.

probably good, clean up in there & kill algae

no worries, that was year ago.

Okay, So how does this sound. I'm gonna change the oil in the truck, I can just add a gallon of oil with each fill up and then run it near empty each time for the next 3-4 tanks of fuel. This will take me about 8 weeks to accomplish since I don't drive much.

I would NOT add that oil.....first that type of oil (clean or used) is/was not meant to be burnt.
I would drain the fuel and refill with diesel. Our injection pumps are cooled and Lubricated by diesel fuel only...anything else leads to excessive wear and tear or even failure.
If you really want to continue with that fuel in the tank then yes, fill right up and use an entire of lubricity additive such as Howes to the tank.
If you also want more then use some chainsaw oil....at least it is meant to be burnt.
Remember the inj. pump, and the injectors themselves don't really like any contaminants in the mix.

good luck

My friend Tom borrowed a buddies gas truck and filled it with diesel. Dohhhhhhhhhhh
He has a bunch of jerry cans filled with the diesel/gas mixture. I'm thinking about picking it up and burning it in my truck a gallon at a time with a fill-up.He said that the truck was almost empty and he put in $70 of diesel so it shouldn't be too much gas in it.

Well thats no good. I did worse than that. I filled with diesel and added 2 quarts of atf and 3 quarts of mobil 1 syn 10/30. Its what I had laying around. I assumed that any oil would do the trick, I did take the time to search the entire site and couldn't really find any information reguarding my plight. Do I need to remove and drain the tank now? Or should I add the just add the lubricity additive and drive it.

Run it. It'll be OK. There are quite a few guys who get rid of their old oil by dumping it in the fuel.

Personally, I'd still add a healthy dose of diesel fuel additive (for lubricity) and then drive it. May need to change your fuel filter sooner than planned as well but I'd run a tank or two through before I did that unless you get indicators that it's plugging.

Well I have some two stroke oil, seafoam, and white or silver power service,
Would any of these add the needed lubricity?

Personally, I'd use the Power Service Diesel Kleen (Silver) at twice recommended strength for this tank and then at regular strength for the next several tanks. The Power Service white is not as concentrated and I don't know how the lubricity of Sea Foam or 2-cycle compare. Just my $0.02 worth.
