Gas gauge? Sending unit

My gas gauge doesn't work but my low fuel light comes on at the appropriate time...waasup wit dat? I have had the plug unplugged and cleaned(?) and reconnected at the tank and have take apart the connection under the dash... everything looked good... I had assumed that it was my sending unit all this time, now I wonder...Any advice before I pull the tank? Thanks in advance!!
Ps... When I fill up, it registers "full" for about 80-90 miles... then it goes straight to empty....

yea... I am of the same opinion... The thing is working at the really low end and the really high end but at the low end, the gauge doesn't register anyway.... that is the way I was siphering it out.....

you shouldn't have to ..... or at least i didn't.....but i have a flatbed on mine. that makes things a little easier to get to. mine did the exact same as yours on the gauge. be sure to check the screen on the bottom of the pump when you pull the sending unit. i had 2 holes in mine and it looked a little cruddy, but i put it back in anyway. i did this on the 3rd of july in the afternoon. (u can see where this is headed, can't ya ? )

the pump is pretty spendy out this way ($240), but i'd have paid 400 to not have had to siphon the tank and drop it again instead of drinking beer and roping with the guys

I just removed the tank... You do have to remove the center-bearing support in order to get to the forward strap hold down nut. So I removed the forward part of the drive shaft and it did give me more room to get up in there and remove the wires and stuff.... Everything looked real clean in and around the filter.... good livin', I guess... (again, no dirt roads)... I would post some pictures but can't figure out how to do that...

i bought a universal sending unit from our freinds at JC Whitney. it comes with a float, sender, and guage, you just have to wire it up. It works pretty good. Kinda sketchy when the tank is full, but seems to read more accuratly as the tank empties. was around $20
