gas 727 behind cummins?

A guy I work with has a rebuilt lockup 727 (big-block pattern) that he doesn't need anymore.

Can it be made to work behind the Cummins? Is it strong enough?

There is no engine adapter with that bolt pattern.

Are you sure he knows what he has. Dodge never made a lockup trans for a big block. That engine was out of production about a decade before lockups were made.

He would have made it himself. Then with the depth of the lockup converter. I dought if the trans would bolt to the engine.

He built it then.... currently being used in a B150 camper van; mated to a mercedes diesel. The trans may have started life behind the 78-80 Mitsubishi diesel.

So adapting will be a challenge? I have no experience with Dodge autos at all. All my trucks run Getrags.

My self I would pass on it. Its a 727 it has no OD. So if the truck you would install it had 3:54's or lower. You would have a top speed of 60 MPH or less.

I do have a line on a 3.07 D70. So the lack of OD isn't an issue.

I really dislike autos, but if a gas 727 were easy to use, I'd be fool to pass it up. There aren't many good/cheap trans options for a Cummins.

I think I'd be further ahead to save my $$$ and get a Fuller or Spicer 6 speed in there on an SAE #2 bellhousing.
