fuel pin question
fuel pin question
Hi. Here's a question for you guys. I see the guys that have these cut fuel pins and some guys just grind them and my question is this. Does this mod actually help your WOT performance or just make the fuel curve steeper? I understand that the little pin that rides on the eccentric cone allows more fuel the further it travels out, but I thought that the full load screw ultimately calls the shots with max fuel flow regardless of that pin's position when you have the pedal to the board. Thanks in advance for the clarification.
If I remember right it was gaining 20hp across the board, more noticeable on the lower end. I don't have my dyno graphs in front of me though. With the "borrowed fuel pin" it went from 218hp to 238hp when the truck had stock injectors and turbo. And when I finally bought my own it went from 321hp to 341hp after the POD's and HX35/40 was on.
Both times we installed the fuel pin while the truck was between pulls on the dyno.

The fuel pin (actually the guide pin) has the end say in how much fuel you get. The guide pin is attached to a few levers that limit low boost fuel. Unhook your AFC hose and take er for a spin. You will lose about 30-50% of your power, depending on what has been done. Remember a guy a few weeks ago that couldnt get his truck to start? His guide pin had been stuck too far back in the bore and wasnt allowing enough fuel to pop the injectors. (may not have been on this forum, but it was a 1stGen forum. I only go here, TDR, and the "new" forum that apparently I cant mention here)
So, in short, changing your fuel pin or the taper thereof can have a significant effect on power output.

Just go and get a new fuel pin, put it in and go. It's that simple. Really some like to grind theirs, I just went and got one all ready ground. The pin does make a differance in the way the truck runs.

what's the story on towing with the fuel pin (either smoky or ground original).
my truck (d350) with 185 injectors, stage iv htt, 16cm, 4", bhaf, and couple turns on fuel screw. i tow about 7k regularly (car trailer and car) and dont want to run into heat problems when pulling.
