Fuel Gauge Question
Fuel Gauge Question
I just bought my truck last Saturday and it was nice enough to have over 1/2 tank of diesel in it. I drove it 7 days and racked up about 180 miles and used 1/4 tank of diesel. So this morning I go to fill her up for the first time.
I stop at the gas station to fill up. Once I filled her up, I jumped back in and turned her over and noticed something really odd. I reset the mileage marker and looked down, the fuel gauge was tracking but in the wrong direction. It was lowering and ended being pegged on "E" after it finally came to rest. Now it had previously tracked just fine with no problems. So I knew that I had just filled it up so I did what I had to do and I am just now posting.
Any ideas on this problem? I didn't post in HELP section as I knew I had fuel in it and it was running great so it is not really an emergency.
I am going to look for parts to fix this tomorrow if anyone knows what this could possible be.
Thanks Matt

The most logical answer to your fuel gauge behavior is:
there may be a dead spot on your fuel gauge sending unit.
There are three wires coming from the feul tank insert: one common, one for the regular fuel level function, the third will trigger your low fuel light at about 6 or 7 gallons remaining.
Replacement requires either dropping the tank or cutting an access hatch in the bed above the sending unit.
If you only have the dead spot at full, you just might choose to live with it 'til it gets worse.
