Question Fuel efficiency after modifications

I assume my truck is getting 20 mpg? I have not driven it far enough to check the fuel economy.
.I'm thinking about doing the standard engine modifications. 16CM housing, injectors 190 or maybe Prince of darkness injectors? Tweaking the injector pump. I have a straight pipe exhaust which is too noisy, I'm thinking about putting Flow Master Exhaust or somthing? But that will be down the road d. But for now Just injectors, pump tweak and housing.
This truck will be a daily commuter 20 miles one way with speeds approximately 65 MPH what kind of fuel economy should I expect with that combination compared to stock? With more horsepower and torque I should not have to push the throttle down as far to go as fast. But that's easier said than done. The truck has 3 .73 gears, automatic with OD & 4x4

I did the 16 cm housing and pump tweak and I think my mileage went up a hair. I don't know about the injectors though.

All the mod's I have done to my '93 have either improved my mileage or not effected it at all. The bigest problem will be your right foot and how you drive. As far as your rear diff ratio goes it should be eirher 3.54 or 4.11- unless someone put new axles front and rear. Last of all if you want an excellant exhaust installed come to Portland and see Rip Rook.

It's nice to see another Oregonian on the boards.

bomb away my 90 went from 19 to a best of 21.1 on the freeway. no throttle plate in the intake let s the diesel get all the air possible. speed is controled by fuel alone. the amount of fuel to run 70 mph. wont change. right foot will control mpg.

If you want to make the truck more quiet don't use a flowmaster or magnaflow. I did the same thing and at first it was too quiet and I was dissappointed. The straight through type mufflers that aren't designed for diesels will soot up REAL quick and you will be back to the straight pipe sound within weeks. In my case it turned out well because I wanted it louder. It's almost as loud as a stright pipe right now but if the cops stop me I can point at a muffler

I don't check my MPG during the winter here in VT as they do mix it and I noticed a couple of years ago that my mileage went down a little due to that (I think) so I don't check during winter months. But, driving around town during the spring/summer/fall I am getting about 18 - 21 without a problem IF I TAKE IT EASY with that right foot. Otherwise, I can smoke my tires all day, hitting high boost numbers and it still gets about 13 - 15 mpg, all day long. This is by the truck alone, not towing or having anything in the back bed. I guess that might make a difference also on mpg if loaded or not.

You are correct though about not giving it as much throttle due to mods.

Welcome aboard.

The POD's hurt my in-town fuel economy, but highway mileage doesn't seem to be affected. My truck never got any better than 18 mpg at 70 anyway. Gets 14 mpg in town now, used to get 16 with the stock injectors.

I check mine every fill up and have been getting a solid 18.9 with the winter fuel driving back and forth to work 37 miles one way. I believe the PODs hurt the in town milage due to the excess fuel while idleing and hazing. I just don't do much in town driving to get a accurate sample. Fuel mileage tends to drop a little if I run over 70 on the interstate.
