Front wheel bearings

Hey guys. Has anyone had problems swapping out the outer bearing race on a Dana 60. My LF wheel decided to part ways with the truck last Sunday. Hell of a mess. Sourced aftermarket bearings for it but the outer race is .028 too small. Of course Dodge sells the rotor, hub and bearings as an assembly for $700.00. Any one else been here. Help.

Wheel bgs

I recently did the front on my 350 4x4. I had no problems getting bearings for it. Curious how you got the 28 th to small. will it just fall in with 28th clearance. I think there were 2 different # for it and I took the old ones with me.Im not sure what the interference is to keep it in.you should be able to also take your bgs to any good parts house and they can cross the # to match them as well. Make sure when putting it back together the lock ring and pin on the lock collar are good or it will back out and it will happen again.

I expanded the hub on a Dana 44 once, from a bearing going bad and heating up. Luckily I had a junker for parts. You might consider pulling the lockout on the other side and make sure the diameters are still the same. Check salvage yards. Ford I.H. and Dodge use 60's. Should have a good chance at matching bolt patterns with those too.

Yes it will just drop in. The lock nuts and ring were still intact. The outer bearing spit it's needles out, followed by the inner. The outer race was really hammered. I just thought it might be some odd size race. I guess the best thing to do is pull the other side to check it over and measure it. Thanks for the input.

Go to the timken web site, and you can look up the specs on the bearing set for that hub by make/model. (It is pretty easy to figure the site out out, but a little slow). Then you will know if it is the hub or the race that is out of spec . . .

I would think the hub or bearing would show some serious scoring if it was worn that bad. It would seem the wrong bearing was put in. I had my old ones up till a week ago, then I tossed them. I coulda given you the specs and #s Let us know what is the outcome.

I had a bearing problem like that once, was short on cash and in a hurry, bought an import bearing and race, it was a couple of thou. to small dropped in instead of press fit!!!!!!!! Moral to the story? buy the good stuff.

P.S. I am not implying you bought the junk like I did, but you could check the manufacturer.

My 44 hub was not all beat up. The front end started to wobble. The outer side of the hub had stretched after it got hot from the bearing loosening. The cotter pin that held the lock nut had been used too many times and had broke.

Well.. I ended up taking my rotor to my machinist, where he is cutting out the original race o.d. (to tru it up), then pressing in a sleeve. He will then cut out the sleeve to accept the original race. Should work mint and be a lot cheaper than $800.00. I'll keep you posted.
