Front Suspension torsion bar
 

I noticed in a picture my cousin sent of his 93 4x4 after installing soft ride leafs that he has a torsion bar mounted to the frame and terminates at each side of the axle. don't remember seeing this on my 92 4x4. Did Dodge have these on 92's? if so does anyone have part #'s and source for torsion stabilizer? Been fighting death wobble from cracked frame and steering box plate which have been repaired and wondering if this torsion bar would help. Thx

I believe you are taking about that sway bar, I see in the picture.
I have seen them of '92 and earlier trucks as well. They were an option from the factory that not everybody ended up with.

They might help the death wobble a bit by minimizing it while happening, but it will not cure it from happening or the problem that is causing it.
The sway bar is there to prevent body lean in turns and such.

I would go through the front end and find the real issue.
It could be king pins, tie rod ends, bad alignment, bad or out of balanced tires or even bad front axle joints, ETC.

A steering stabilizer would help more than a sway bar, but it would be best to check out your front end closely.

thanks. thinking about doubling the steering stabilizer. Wanting to finish project off with new wheels and tires, but trying to get mechanical issues done first. May very well be out of balance tires and wheels. Just need to bite the bullet and spend the money to finish. Of course with these beauties does one ever get finished?!!!

Just rebuild the kingpins and be done with it. That is the problem most of the time.

I wish mine had the sway bar too, to help with loads, not steering.

Ditto on the king pins and related hardware. Stabilizers just act as a bandaid to partially mask the issue. Although I did add one to mine to help soften the stress in the future.

Kingpins replaced already. new leveling leafs to replace old worn saggy on drivers side. new steering box. crack in steering box plate welded. Frame crack in same area welded. taller block under pitman arm to correct angle from steering box.

I listed several things on my previous post that can cause death wobble.
King pins are the most common cause.
Time to check the other items I listed.

I haven't gotten a chance to tear into my kingpins... (reference my thread Cracked Steering Plate)... however, my death wobble is all but gone. Just a slight "tremor... vibration" type feeling occasionally when braking ... and I have a slight pull to the right.

I followed the advice found on this forum that addressed death wobble issues... and I'm expecting to find deformed/damaged plastic bushings in the kingpins... perhaps my alignment is off or tires out of balance.

I may check those 2 things before I tear down the front end.

Mr. Foster, thank you for the valuable info. The Steering stabilizer took care of the majority of the wobble. Now to get it aligned cause there is a slight pull to the right. and then on ward with new wheels and tires!
