That would be ok just go easy with it.
Keep it off the lip of seal.

put a LITTLE silicon on the OUTSIDE of the metal part of the seal, make sure the rubber (?) part of the seal and the seal surface of the crankshaft are CLEAN and DRY, then put`er together. [director]

No silicone on the outer, metal surface of the seal. Red Loctite is the recommendation. The seal goes on the crankshaft dry when you install the front cover with the seal in place. Be sure to place the plastic sleeve (came with the seal) over the snout of the crankshaft prior to installation. That prevents the lip of the seal from folding forward.
