Front axle universal joint?yoke problem
This one has me puzzled. I rebuilt the CV joint and all went well until I tried to
install the front u-joint. The 5-789X Spicer joint is too wide and won't fit the yoke. I measured the joint that came out of the yoke and it is 3.125 across assembled that's .125 shorter than the 5-789X that is 3.250 as is the yoke on the front axle.
Appears somebody changed drive lines or stuck an oddball yoke on it?
P.S. I can't even find a replacement for the joint they had in here weird!!
It wouldn't work anyway but WTH?

Chrysler/detroit 7290 Series Pinion Yoke measures 2-5/8" between the yoke ears. U-Joint cup diameter is 1-1/8".
That should be the pinion, and the driveline should correspond. But if you have the spicer joint on the Dshaft, you might have to get a conversion joint like
Northern Drivetrain, LLC: Spicer 5-354X
Edit, looks like the joint you have is a detroit 7260, not 7290?
So is this what you need? a 7260/7290 combo? https://www.summitracing.com/nv/parts/mog-347/overview/

It would be the 7260 it has the 1.078" diameter and measures 2.125" between the ears.

My description wasn't really clearIts' the joint at the axle end of the driveline. I thought the 5-789 was a direct replacement for the 7260.

I think I figured it out the driveline is 7260 and the axle yoke is 1310. that would the yoke being .125 wider and the diameter is close at 1.062 where the 7260 is1.078.
I am going to use a conversion joint for now.
