Fricken Return Line!

Who hates the fuel return line as much as I do?!

Man those little banjo bolts peeve me off!

They are such a beach to get lined up correct so you don't strip them. Not to mention I had to pay $7.54 at cummins for 1 new one from when I installed my PODs last year and must have stripped the one.

Just venting and letting you guys know.

If it wasn't for the return line I could have injectors oput and back in, in no time.

Anybody got some tips on how they do it? (just for future reference since its back on again)

HMM, Make sure you start them by hand, use a small wrench when you tighten them. remember those little copper washers will seal just fine without lots of pressure.
They are very small and are drilled, so they cant take lots of torque. but I dont have to tell you now
We have all learned the hard way at least once in our lives.
It will pay off when the work is done.

Finger tight and basically what frostie said. Also any play in the index ball on the injector or in the slot in the head allowing the injector to move slightly to one side or the other, instead of 90* to the rockers after torqueing them down will definately make it tough to line up the fuel return banjos. Make sure you have the injectors set down the deepest and indexed correctly before torqueing the hold down nuts to 44ft.lbs. I've only had one injector hole on 4 engines I've pulled injectors on, give me problems of turning. My new 91.5 had one injector that just would not stay straight. I eventually got it.

In looking it up, torque on the "injector drain banjo screw" is "6 ft lb". It also cautions about accidently flattening the lines as you reinstall the banjo bolts.

Now I know....

Hard to believe that Dodge had it cheaper than Cummins...

I think that's GOT to be the first time that's happened...ever!

yeah, it seems odd to me too, but i had a guy with 2 6bt's in a boat come in and buy 2 of them from me last week. i originally looked em up for a 97 but later checked and it's the same back to 89. boat guy told me cummins quoted him 38.00 each (i think they looked up the wrong thing). i know some off ya'll are biased about not going to the dealer but sometimes it can be a good thing. and for the people in the back of the class, yes i am a mopar parts guy
