flexplate question?

i have an 1989 d250 and broke the flexplate.most people say put a second gen flexplate ( 3975464 cummins#).i understand it is a little thicker than my original 89 plate.will this cause any seal or transmission problems in the future? and is it an exact fit or is machining required?

Unless it's untaxed, then it's red.

Direct bolt on.
I believe the original part number was superseded by the 2nd gen flex plate number.

I've had one from a 47RH and my 727 side by side and I couldn't tell a difference. I'm about 99% sure they are the same.

I have had a 92/94/2006 flex plates side by side. All measured the same thickness no matter where you wanted to measure.

One was a 518 flex plate. One was a 47Rh flex plate. One was a 48RE flex plate.

If your looking for a used one. Just make sure its a 48RE or downward. I haven't had my hands on a 68RFE flex plate. Yet. LOL
